There were a lot of lessons learned after sitting back and reflecting on how my first partner CrossFit Competition went. Going into it, I had asked some members around the gym about what they’ve done in the past and what to expect when it came to nutrition, how they warmed up, and how the flow of things went.
It’s safe to say that I overshot how hungry I thought I was going to be throughout the day. I made sure to have a nice meal Friday night, Chicken Parm from First and Last Tavern to be exact, and I tried to get to bed at a reasonable hour even though my nerves had other plans.
I woke up at 6am, ready to go, and had a small breakfast since I wasn’t too hungry. In the future, I plan on having more food to hold me over and to be sure my body is fueled for the day. I packed endless amounts of snacks and sandwiches, and it was very eye-opening to see how little of an appetite I had throughout the day.
The 3 snacks that seemed to go down easily were apple sauce pouches, fruit snacks, and Fuel For Fires. Another great option that I could’ve utilized was G1M carbs, to give my body a quick source of energy for the time being. I was definitely glad I came over prepared rather than not having enough food or snacks to last me an 8 hour day with multiple workouts.
After the competition was over, we made our way to Bear’s BBQ where my appetite finally came back and I was STARVING. I got myself an order of Bear Balls and some wings, and let me tell you… no food has ever tasted so good!
As I reflect on my first ever CrossFit Competition, my nutrition was not where it should’ve been but I now have the experience of what my body can and can’t tolerate. Next time I’m definitely sticking with apple sauce, fruit snacks, and quick carbs!!
